What is this about? Here’s a letter from the organiser…

Hello there

First and foremost I would like to thank you for your interest in Mobile Web East Africa 2012, experience has taught me that by engaging with individuals, such as yourself, and organisations, like the one you represent, is crucial to an event reaching its objectives. This letter is designed to provide you with an overview of the origins of the event, what you can expect from the conference and the next steps to confirm your involvement.

We first ran Mobile Web East Africa in February 2010 – the event was a massive success, it was alive with discussion and interaction, received huge amounts of media coverage (including being featured on the national evening news) but most importantly delivered for the attendees. Mobile Web East Africa is part of a series of events that include Mobile Web Africa 2009, 2010 and 2011, Mobile Web West Africa 2011 and Mobile Entertainment Africa 2011.

In short since we organised the inaugural event in Kenya in 2010 we’ve been busy, but we believe that February 2012 is the perfect time to run Mobile Web East Africa again and are really looking forward to running another stand-out conference. Back in early 2010 the sector was still very much in its infancy, two years on and progress has been impressive – mobile marketing is establishing itself, the drive towards local content and service creation has gathered considerable speed and the Silicon Savannah tag is becoming less hype and more of a reality.

The potential that was the main driving force behind the creation of the Mobile Web Africa series of events is still there. The main focus of this event is the massive opportunity that the internet and applications on mobile devices represent to all the different echelons of society. Furthermore the role of this event, like its sister events in Western and Southern Africa, is the same: to facilitate and enable the expansion and growth of the mobile ecosystem.

It’s also important to impress upon you the type of event that Mobile Web East Africa will be. Whether you are a regular conference attendee or not then we’d like to highlight the feedback we’ve received from our 6 previous events:

  • 83% of our attendees (your peers) say our events are ‘better’ or ‘much better’ than other conferences they have attended.
  • 96% of our attendees (your peers) say that our events have ‘met’ or exceeded ‘by far’ their expectations.
  • 86% of our attendees (your peers) say that our events are ‘Excellent’ or ‘Very Good’.

For an event to truly be an enabler we believe that everything has to be right on the day: agenda, speakers, timings, food, atmosphere, format – so that you can come and focus 100% on the task in hand. That’s what we specialise in and why the above statistics are so impressive. You might also want to look at some of the testimonials that we’ve collected from across the continent, which you can find here.

Mobile Web East Africa is going to be an action packed, interactive 2 day conference where we will once again utilise our Interactive Roundtable Format. The event is going to focus on topics such as Mobile Marketing; Driving Local Content & Services; Mobile For The Good of Society; Mobile Applications; User Experience & The Consumer, High Level Perspectives, Mobile Entertainment and will also include an Application Competition and an Open Mic Session. The agenda and delegation is going to feature the key people involved in the sector and therefore we want you and your organisation represented at the conference.
